One of Dallas County sheriff's top commanders resigns

One of Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez's top commanders has resigned. Assistant Chief Deputy Danny Downes stepped down this week to work for a jail in Lubbock.

Chief Downes was hired in 2006 to head inmate housing at the Dallas County Jail. Before that, he was a lieutenant at the McLennan County Jail in Waco. Sheriff Valdez said he will be missed.
